A Love Affair With Ice Cream - From Boy To Man

Today I have 3 ice cream pictures to share with you. Why these 3? Well, whilst they were all taken on different days and in entirely different places, they do have something rather special in common - they reflect the passion that the male species has for ice cream!

From toddlers to teenagers to businessmen, the male species has a fondness for ice cream that appears to know no bounds.

Little 2 year-old Dylan not only loves his ice cream cone with chocolate flake so much that he gets it everywhere in his haste to devour it but he positively enjoys making a mess and getting lots of attention in doing so. Wonderful!

When he gets older, however, his self-consciousness will start to kick in and, as a young man, looking cool and trendy, he will probably endeavour to handle his ice cream cone a little more carefully as Oliver does in the second picture. (Photograph taken outside an ice cream parlour in The Vendée)
When it gets to the level of a businessman, however, it becomes a little more tricky .... how to enjoy a treat of an ice cream cone without getting it all over the suit, shirt and tie. Paper napkins at the ready chaps!

If you believe the old saying that the way to a man's heart is his stomach, then be sure to have some good homemade ice cream on the menu!

Vanishing Ice Cream Trick

Ice cream is such a popular subject that it is referred to in all forms of entertainment. From books to movies and more, ice cream features heavily in comedy and children's stories.

I was watching an episode of Scooby-Doo Where Are You? (from 1970) with my son this evening and smiled as the opening scenes of 'Nowhere To Hyde' showed the gang in the Malt Shop about to eat double fudge ice cream sundaes. They had just been to a magic show at their high school which prompted Scooby to demonstrate his own magic trick. He made both his own and Shaggy's ice cream sundae disappear - into his mouth! Velma described it as "The Vanishing Ice Cream trick".

Later in the story when Scooby was trying to tell the gang that there was a ghost in the back of the Mystery Machine, Velma didn't take him seriously and said he'd just eaten too much ice cream!

Making ice cream vanish isn't too difficult a trick to perform of course but if it's homemade ice cream it usually disappears a lot faster! There is some interesting reading for anyone interested in learning some genuine magic trucks. Poker players in particular take note - there are some great poker card tricks out there and if you're not familiar with poker you can always read up first on holdem poker rules.

Getting back to Scooby-Doo .... if you're a fan then you might enjoy reading my ice cream and Scooby-Doo web page.

Eating Ice Cream In Bed

Eating ice cream is a pleasurable experience let's face it so where do people most enjoy eating ice cream? Sitting in front of tv? At the cinema? In an ice cream parlor? On the beach? In bed? Yes that last question is correct!

Apparently, many people love to eat ice cream when they are in bed. As my page on ice cream and movie stars explains, Brad Pitt is reported to have said after marrying Jennifer Aniston "Being married means I can fart and eat ice cream in bed."

Eating ice cream in bed is one of a number of common ice cream indiscretions that people readily admit to. Others include keeping a secret stash of ice cream hidden away in the freezer, eating ice cream in the bath and even eating ice cream for breakfast!

If your inclination is to curl up in bed and watch a movie whilst tucking into a bowl of ice cream, then you might be well advised to invest in a bed that combines quality with practicality such as a faux leather bed. Why? Because it's stylish yet not expensive AND you can clean off those ice cream stains from the headboard!

Summer Ice Cream Treats - Ice Cream Picture 1

Ice cream - a great way to celebrate summer! There are so many ways to enjoy ice cream at this time of year. Here are just a few of the things people do:

  • buy an ice cream cone from an ice cream stall
  • wait for the ice cream truck to come around
  • visit an ice cream parlor for a special ice cream sundae treat
  • buy a tub of commercially made ice cream to enjoy at home after dinner
  • make your own homemade ice cream
In the coming weeks I'm going to share with you some of my summer ice cream treat photographs taken over the last couple of summers whilst out and about in the sunshine.

Ice Cream Truck Demise In Britain

The ice cream truck is synonomous with fun and features in most people's happy childhood memories. Eddie Murphy created an incredibly funny and now famous comedy sketch based on his ice cream memories as a kid. Even today when our local ice cream man comes around, the queue is comprised of people of all ages, young and old. However, that could soon be a thing of the past ... in Britain.

According to news reports, 3 January 2012 will be a key date for ice cream truck owners and operators. This is the date by which they will have to ensure that their vehicle(s) comply with strict quality air standards as set by a 1996 EU directive. The law is already in existence applying to trucks, buses and coaches and is in force in boroughs of London in England. However, this legislation may soon be in force not only in other cities throughout Britain but also be extended to cover smaller commercial vehicles such as minibuses and ice cream trucks.

Many ice cream truck owners/operators simply don't have the financial resources to comply with this proposed legislation as they would need to either replace their vehicle(s) entirely or at the very least fit expensive specialised filters. And if they don't they face a heavy fine - again something they cannot really afford.

It would be a sad day indeed if the ice cream truck disappeared from the streets of Britain. After all, we're not talking about just a business here .... it's a community service!
