Melting Ice Cream Cones

Have you ever heard of the ice cream that never melts in the sun? It's a wonderful little section in the Roald Dahl story of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. If only it were true in real life!

As this photograph demonstrates, if it's a warm, sunny day, ice cream might seem very appealing BUT you have to eat it quickly! My family were all shouting 'Quick before it all melts!" over my shoulder as I took this photograph. Needless to say once the camera was put away, these ice cream cones didn't have much longevity :-)

The ice cream cone has a fascinating history going back to the beginning of the 20th century. If this interests you, then you can delve further into the world of the ice cream cone by reading about the ice cream poke.

His N Hers Ice Cream - Is Chocolate Best?

Ice cream might not be thought of as a fashion accessory but you'd be surprised! Well, it's not like wearing jewelry as it doesn't get to last that long but there is definitely a difference in the way men and women make their ice cream choices.

Take this picture for example ... notice how the woman in front has chosen a pink ice cream to go with her scoop of vanilla, creating a lovely, colorful contrast to her black t shirt. The man, however, did not ... no, even though the flavor might be fabulous, he couldn't be seen eating pink ice cream. Also it might clash with his bright red shirt! Instead he chose possibly the most 2 popular flavors of ice cream in the world ... vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Some things never change :-)

A 'Bolt' Of An Ice Cream Inspiration

Anticipating one of the world's greatest athletes stepping onto the world stage to try and enter the history books is an exciting and potentially 'once in a lifetime' event. So today, in readiness for watching the Olympic Men's 200 metre race, I made a batch of homemade vanilla ice cream which I knew my family would love. It's a new recipe that I've been wanting to try out for a while since returning from a trip to France where I got the idea.

I was convinced, before the race, that Usain Bolt would win and as such would become a living legend in world sport and my way of sharing in that joy would be to celebrate by enjoying a new ice cream!

My husband asked me "What if he doesn't win?"
My reply: "Don't worry he will! He has to because I've gone to such trouble to make this new ice cream!"

Thank you Usain for repaying my faith :-)

Here's the ice cream I made - served on a meringue nest with sliced, fresh cherries. Delicious!
